Lady Ingrid, a locomotive

Water

Everyone knows that steam engines must carry coal but they forget that locomotives must also carry a large quantity of water to produce the steam.

Lady Ingrid is about to have her water tank filled. Can you see the hose pipe? Mark, the fireman, is climbing up onto the tank to open the lid while Dave, the driver, is going to turn on the tap.

When you are an inspector you will need to check that this operation is carried out safely. Therefore, you will need to know something about the subject.

Lady Ingrid's tank holds 6000 litres. It is half empty.

Question 1: How many litres of water are needed to top up the tank?
